Seeding Our Food Future was an event hosted by Randwick City Council’s Sustainability Team. The event aligned with the theme of Fair Food Week and complimented the aims and objectives of the ‘People’s Food Plan’ that was developed by the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance.
The event was attended by 80+ active locals with an already established interest and network in a variety of initiatives that are all working towards a sustainable and fair food future.
The day’s proceedings presented by Costa Giorgiades – TV host of ABC’s Gardening Australia, who brought together the event in his usual engaging and inspiring style.
The main program consisted of a ‘conversation café’ style discussion involving 6 key table topics including (1) Developing Food Democracy – hosted by Nick Rose from the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance (2) Recipe for Healthy Eating – hosted by Brigit Busicchia from the Sydney Food Fairness Alliance (3) Building A Fair Food System: Social Businesses, hosted by Julian Lee from Sydney Food Connect (5) Building A Fair Food System: Youth, hosted by Jo Baker from the Australian Youth Food Movement and (6) Building A Fair Food System: Organics, hosted by Catriona McMillan from the Organics Directory.
To wrap up the proceedings an organic communal meal was prepared and enjoyed whilst watching a film screening of the film: ‘Fresh’ – which celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system.
An inspiring event that engaged people in creative discussion and developing innovative solutions for working towards a fair food system that nourishes all people, keeps growers profitable and nurtures the environment.
